HP have released two servers with the E3 Xeon 'Haswell' line of CPUs from Intel. The first is the ProLiant DL320e Gen8 V2, which is remarkable in it's low depth form factor - it's only 15 inches deep and is therefore deployable in a multitude of ways. The second is the ProLiant ML310e Gen8 V2 and is aimed at the 'server under the desk' small business.

The DL320 Gen8 V2 is designed for standard rack deployment, at only 1RU in height. But with only 15 inches of depth to its name, the V2 can be deployed in almost any location. The system features a single E3-1200 series CPU at up to 3.6 GHz in a 4 core chip.

Caching is dealt with at Level 3 with 8MB, and 4 DIMM slots provide support for up to 32 GB of PC3-12800E main memory. PCIe Gen 3.0 support is added, with 1 x16 and 1 x8 slots respectively.

Standard networking is provided by an board dual port 1 GbE adaptor, and storage in 2 LFF or 4 SFF drives. Opting for the latter requires you to up the power supplies to 750W items. Storage capacity is 8 TB (4x 2 TB).

HP also released details of the tower form factor ML310e Gen8 V2. This is a dual or four core Xeon Haswell box, with more or less the same specification as the DL320e Gen8 V2. They both utilise the B120i disk controller, but the tower can house double the amount of disks for a total of 16 TB.
